Charles Archer Horton

Charles Archer Horton was born in 1880 in Lea, Lincolnshire and was the son of the late John Horton a blacksmith and Sarah Horton, née Cuthbert of 406, Berridge Rd., Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1848 in Lea, Lincolnshire and his mother Sarah Cuthbert was born in 1851 in Louth, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1877 in Louth Lincolnshire and went on to have 5 children, John Henry b1879 Elkington, Lincs, Charles b1880 Lea, Edmund b1882 Louth, George b1884 Louth and Jonas b1886 Louth. His father John died in 1908 in Nottingham he was 59 yrs of age. In the 1911 census the family are living at 406 Berridge Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as Sarah 60 yrs a widow, she is living with her sons Edmund 29 yrs a commercial traveller, George 27 yrs a blacksmith and Jonas 25 yrs an army reservist. Charles married Gertrude Mary Sharpe (born 7th June 1877 ) in 1905 in Nottingham and they went on to have 3 children Norah Gertrude born 7th November 1905, Charles born 27th October 1910 and Francis Joseph born 14th February 1912 all were born in Basford. In the 1911 census the family are shown living at 413 Berridge Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as Charles Archer Horton 31 yrs a blacksmith, he is living with his wife Gertrude Mary 33 yrs and their children Norah Gertrude 5 yrs and Charles 3 months. The family later lived at 310 Radford Road, Radford, Nottingham. Following Charles death his widow Gertrude was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 4 pence a week which commenced on 16th September 1918.
