Family History

Reginald was born in 1895 in West Derby, Liverpool and was the son of Herbert Lowe a lace packer and exporter and Alberta Charlotte Goddard née Youngman of Radford, Nottingham. His father Herbert was born in 1864 in Nottingham and his mother Alberta Charlotte was born in 1862 in Pulham, Norfolk, they were married in West Derby, Liverpool in 1892 and went on to have four children , however one died in infancy prior to 1911, their surviving children were Reginald b1895 West Derby, Cyril Leibknecht Herbert b1901 West Derby and Winifred b1900 Birkenhead. In the 1911 census the family are living at 9 Institute Terrace, Hartley Road, Radford and are shown as Alberta 47yrs married and is living with her children Reginald, 16 yrs , Cyril 10 yrs and Winifred 11 yrs. His father Herbert in the 1911 census is shown as being at 17 Crofts Place, St Peters Street, Radford , he is shown as the head of the family 47 yrs and a lace packer and exporter, also at the address is a lodger Frederick Barker 24 yrs a tailor.

Military History

Reginald Bartley Lawrence Goddard, enlisted at Derby and served with 1/6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he died of wounds on 12th September 1916. He is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L'Abbe.

Following is an entry in the 'Nottingham Evening Post', dated 12th September 1917. “GODDARD. – In loving memory of Private Reginald Bartley Lawrence Goddard, Northumberland Fusiliers, who died of wounds September 12th, 1916, aged 21 years.
