Lawrence Rankin Augustus Blower

Lawrence Rakin Augustus Blower was born in 1893 in Cotmanhay and was the son of Thomas a coal miner and Sophia Blower née Hunt of 6 Lambert Street, Hyson Green Nottingham. His father Thomas Blower was born in 1856 in Staffordshire and his mother Sophia Hunt was born in 1859 at Swanwick, Derbyshire, they were married in 1876 their marriage was recorded in the Belper Registration District, they went on to have 12 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children listed on the 1901/1911 census are Mary Ann b1881 at Radford, Arthur b1884 Featherstone, Yorkshire, , Sarah b1886 Cotmanhay, Bertha b1888 Cotmanhay, John Charles b1890 Cotmanhay Lawrence b1893 Cotmanhay, Lucy b1897 Cotmanhay and Thomas b1900 Cotmanhay. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Lambert Street, Hyson Green and are shown as Thomas 53 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Sophia 50 yrs and their children, Bertha 23 yrs a blouse maker, John Charles 21 yrs a coal miner, Lucy 14 yrs a factory girl and Thomas 11 yrs. In the 1911 census Lawrence is shown as being 17 yrs and single and serving in the Special Reserve at the Normanton barracks at Derby. His brother John Charles Blower married his wife Lilian Bragg on 5th October 1912 at St Stephens church, they went on to have 2 children, Thomas William born 16th January 1914 and Lilian May born 16th September 1915, they lived at 6 Wilford Terrace, Bridlington Street, Nottingham.
