Family History

John (known as Jack) was the son of Thomas and Hannah Severn of 14 Babbington Cottages Cinderhill Nottingham and the brother of Arthur Severn, Private, 8th Bn Suffolk Regiment, who was killed 31 July 1917. His father Thomas died on 23 March 1929 aged 85 and his mother Hannah on 18 August 1941 aged 82.

Military History

John Severn enlisted in Nottingham and served with 10th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. He landed in France on 13th July 1915 and was killed in action a year later on 1st July 1916 when no other battalion suffered higher casualties that day. He was buried in Fricourt New Military Cemetery (grave ref D.2)
