Family History

Joseph Luke Winn was born in 1881 the son of Joseph a maltster and Elizabeth Winn née Brewitt of 1 Grove Cottage, Thorneywood, Nottingham. His father was born in 1853 at East Stockwith, Lincolnshire, his mother in 1855 in Laughton, Lincolnshire. Married in 1878, they had the following children, Ellen b.1880 Gainsborough, Joseph Luke b.1881 St Ann's and Maria b.1884 St Ann's. In 1911, the family lived at 1 Grove Cottages, Thorneywood Lane. Ellen worked as a german seamer in the hosiery trade and Maria was a blouse machinist. Joseph Luke married Sarah Jane Hill (born 7th March 1879) in 1912 at Nottingham. They lived at 15 Assarts Avene, Thorneywood Nottingham and had twins Joseph and Gladys born on 11th August 1917. With effect from 7/1/1918, Joseph's widow was awarded a weekly pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence.
