Family History

Alfred Love (junior) was born in 1877 the son of Alfred Love (senior) a chimney sweep and Sarah Love (née Scott) of 17, Martin Street, St Ann's, Nottingham. His father was born in 1856 at Nottingham and died in 1910. His mother was also born in 1856 at Nottingham. Married in 1875 at Radford, they had the following children - Eliza b.1875, Alfred b.1877, Ann b.1879, Emily b.1883 and Harry b.1885. All were born in Sneinton. Alfred Love (junior) married Annie Joyce in 1899 at Nottingham. They had 7 children, five surviving infancy or early childhood - Emily b.1899, Lily b.1903, Alfred b.1905, Leslie b.1907 and Samuel b.1910. In 1911, the family was living at 105, Windmill Row, Carlton Hill, Nottingham. he is Emily, Lily and Alfred were scholars, Leslie was 4 and Samuel 1.

Military History

Alfred Love initially served (1468) in the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment). He landed in France on 4th December 1914. However, he was serving with the 1st (Garrison) Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment in India when he died of pneumonia on 6th January 1919. He is buried in Calcutta (Bhowanipore) Cemetery Grave Reference: 0, J, 9

In memoriam notice published 6th January 1920 in the Nottingham Evening Post: “LOVE. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Pte. A. Love, died of pneumonia, India, January 6th, 1919.
