Family History

George Watkin Elston was born in 1883 at Shoreditch, London, he was the son of William a builders carter and Jane Ann Elston née Pritchell of 26 Regent Hill, Carlton Road, Nottingham. His father William Elston was born in 1849 at St Botolf, Lincolnshire, his mother Jane Ann Pritchell was born in 1855 at Orson, Nottinghamshire, they were married on 12th November 1877 at St Thomas Church, Nottingham, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 26 Regent Hill, Carlton Road, Nottingham, William 62 yrs is a buildes carter, he is living with his wife Jane Ann 56 yrs and their children, Arthur 30 yrs a coal miner, George 28 yrs a builders labourer, Grace 13 yrs a lace hand, and Lucy 15 yrs a hosiery hand.

Military History

Private George Watkin Elston enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 28th July 1916 and is buried at Connaught Cemetery, Thiepval.
