Family History

George Albert Burton was born on 27th October 1888 he was baptised on 18th November 1888 at St Clements Mission, Sneinton he was the son of Benjamin a general labourer at a brickyard and Emma Elizabeth Burton née Dickinson of 6 Low water Street, Carlton Hill, Nottingham. Benjamin was born in 1857 at Carlton, Emma Elizabeth Dickinson was born in 1867 at Burton Joyce, they were married on 26th July 1886 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they had 6 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood. George Albert married Caroline Wrigley Winterbottom in 1906 their marriage was recorded in the Fylde, Lancashire registration district, they had a daughter Lavinia in 1912 at Fylde, Lancashire In the 1911 census the family are living at 5 Standhill Row, Lowwater Street, Sneinton, Nottingham George Albert 22 yrs is a bricklayer he is living with his wife Caroline 22 yrs and his parents Benjamin 54 yrs a brickyard labourer and Emma Elizabeth 44 yrs.

Military History

Private George Albert Burton enlisted at York, he initially served with the service number 36025 with the West Yorkshire regiment. Whilst serving with the 1st battalion Lancashire Fusiliers he was killed in action on 1st March 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
