Thomas Stout was born in 1894 in Radford and was the son of Roland a coal miner and Annie Elizabeth Stout, née Stevenson of 6 Albert Road, Mill Street, Old Basford. His father Roland was born in 1871 in Basford and his mother Annie Elizabeth Stevenson was born in 1871 in Nottingham, they were married in 1891 in Nottingham and went on to have 8 children, Thomas b1894 Radford, Annie b1897 Radford, Lily b1898 Basford, Beatrice b1900 Basford, Elsie b1902 Basford, Doris b1906 Basford, Roland b1908 Basford and Walter b1911 Basford. In the 1911 census the family was living at 6 Albert Road, Mill Street, Basford and shown as Roland 40 yrs a coal miner, his wife Annie 40 yrs and their children, Thomas 16 yrs a hose trimmer, Lily 13 yrs an errand girl, Lily 13 yrs a scholar, Beatrice 11 yrs a scholar, Elsie 9 yrs a scholar, Doris 5 yrs, Roland 3 yrs and Walter 1 month.
1/8th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment Private Thomas Stout, enlisted at Kimberley. Thomas was killed by a shell on 20th June 1916, two days after the battalion arrived in Fonquevillers prior to the battle of Gommecourt. He was one of five members of the battalion killed in the incident: Privates Bingley, Fogg, Pulford and Tyers. They were buried in Foncquevillers Military Cemetery, France, graves I.F.29-I.F.33.(Thomas - grave ref. I.F.29).
