Ernest was born in 1895 the son of Joseph and Annie Parker. Joseph was born in 1852 in Warwickshire and Annie in 1858 in Leicestershire. Married around 1875, they had three Nottingham-born children - Joseph b.1889, Fred b.1891 and Ernest b.1895. In 1901, the family lived at 59, Rydall Grove, Old Basford and in 1911 at 421, Nottingham Road (both Nottingham). Joseph was a coal carter and, by 1911, Fred worked as a miner. Annie Parker later lived at of 4, Bailey Street, Old Basford, Nottingham.
Ernest Parker enlisted into the territorial army on 23rd November 1910 at Kimberley aged 17. He was living at 77, Leonard Avenue, Nottingham. He was posted to the 8th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was embodied into 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters on 2nd March 1915 and embarked from Southampton. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 26th April 1915 and was shot by a sniper.
