Family History

George Kendrick was born in 1895 at Bulwell he was the son of Edward Kendrick a coal miner hewer and his wife Hannah Kendrick, née Lee of 50 Cowley Street, Bulwell. His father Edward was born in 1851 at Handbury, Staffordshire, his mother Hannah Lee was born in 1868 at Chesterfield, they were married in 1886 at Rugby, they had 12 children sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 50 Cowley Street, Bulwell, Edward Kendrick is 60 yrs of age and is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Hannah 43 yrs and their children, May 18 yrs a cotton spinner, George 16 yrs a clay pot worker, Thomas 13 yrs, Clara 9 yrs, Elsie 5 yrs, Minnie 3 yrs and Harold 5 months old.

Military History

Private George Kendrick enlisted on 18th August 1914, at Nottingham giving his age as 19 yrs and 191 days, he was a coal miner hewer, he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 3rd May 1915 and was killed in action on 9th August 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate, Belgium.
