Family History

He was the son of William and Elizabeth Hopkins and the brother of Mary, William, Matthew, Annie, Caroline, Nellie, John, Ishmael and Levi Hopkins. In 1901 they lived at 27 David's Square David's Lane Old Basford Nottingham. Henry married Mabel Padley (born 23rd February 1891) in 1916 at Nottingham, she brought a child to the marriage Doris Cooper Padley born 3rd October 1912, they had a child Ernest born 17th October 1916. They lived at 24 Browns Croft, Old Basford, Nottingham Commencing 18th February 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.

His birth was registered J/A/S/1890 so he may have been 27 when killed.

Extra Information

Some sources, including CWGC and UKSWD, cite Hopkin but he was registered Hopkins at birth and appears thus on the 1901 Census. On the 1911 Census the family name was Hopkin and the BMD Marriage and Birth Indexes has Hopkin for his marriage and the birth of his son. The Soldiers' Effects Register cites 'Hopkins or Hopkin'.
