Arthur Boot Gregory

Arthur was the son of Henry (Harry) Daniel Gregory and his second wife Rebecca (née Boot). His father Harry Daniel was born in Nottingham on 19 November 1865. He married Mary Pearson at Basford St Leodegarius on 2 April 1888 and they had two children, Lucy Mabel b. 1888 (O/N/D) and Silby Harry b. 7 March 1892. In 1891 Harry, a lace draughtsman, and Mary (27) were living on Springfield Street, Basford, with their daughter Lucy (2). Their son was born the following year and Mary died in 1893 aged about 29. His mother Rebecca was born in Lenton on 10 March 1871, the daughter of William and Sarah Boot. Her father was licensee of the Boat Inn on Priory Street, Lenton, in 1871. Harry and Rebecca were married at Lenton St Anthony on 7 October 1897 and had three children: Arthur Boot b. 1899, Frank William b. 10 July 1905 and Phyllis b. 1908. In 1901 Harry, a Leivers lace draughtsman, and Rebecca were living at 46 Springfield Street, Lenton, with their children Lucy, Silby and Arthur (2). Harry and Margaret were at the same address in 1911. Four of the five children were still living at home: Silby a plumber's apprentice, Arthur, Frank (5) and Phyllis (2). Lucy, a hosiery mender, was living with an uncle and aunt, John and Emma Hallam, on Chard Street, Nottingham. Arthur's parents were still at 46 Springfield Street when he was killed in 1918. In 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled Harry and Rebecca were living at 50 Springfield Street. Harry died in 1946 and Rebecca in 1964. Arthur's half brother, Silby, probably served in the Royal Horse Artillery (608329 Driver) during the war. He married Hilda H Stevens (b. 1 June 1891) in 1920. In 1939 they were living at 7 Market Place, Nottingham; Silby was a master plumber. The records of two other members of the household remain closed but may be those of Joyce M. Gregory b. 1925 and Barbara Gregory b. 1927. Silby died in 1968. Arthur's brother Frank William and his wife Alice (b. 4 February 1907) were living on Rosslyn Drive Nottingham in 1939. The closed record of another member of the household may have been that of Sylvia Gregory b. 1933. Frank died in 1991. Arthur's half-sister Lucy may have married Amos L Woolley in 1916 and his sister Phyllis may have married Leslie Bexon in 1934.
