Frank Outlaw

Frank Outlaw Frank was born in Worksop in 1896 when his family lived at 59 Creswell Street. Frank’s father was a coal hewer who moved his family, including Frank and his four sisters, to South Elmsall near Pontefract in the early years of the 20th century where two further boys were born but his wife died in 1909. After the outbreak of war, Frank volunteered and served in the regular arm battalion the 2nd Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry joining them in France on 21 May 1915. It is not possible to ascertain when Private Outlaw was so seriously wounded that he was sent home, eventually being hospitalised at Glasgow. His Battalion had been heavily engaged from September 1918 in breaking through the Hindenburg Line. Frank died on 12 December 1918 possibly from not only his wounds but from the added hazard of influenza. He is buried in the Glasgow Western Necropolis. Courtesy of Robert Illett
