Family History

Sydney Cuddy was born in 1899 in Bingham and was the son of James Joseph a waggoner on a farm and Mary Ann Cuddy nee Robinson of Newgate Street, Bingham. His father James Joseph was born in 1860 in Creggs, Ireland and his mother Mary Ann Robinson was born in 1862 in Cropwell Butler, they were married in 1881 in Lichfield and went on to have 11 children , sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were all born in Bingham and were, Margret May b1888, Bertha b1889, Norah b1891, Thomas Dennis b1893, Alban James b1895, Barbara b1897,Sarah Ann b1901 and Marjory b1903.In the 1911 census the family are living at Newgate Street, Bingham and are shown as James 52 yrs a waggoner, he is living with his wife Mary Ann and their children Norah 19 yrs a domestic servant, Alban James 15 yrs a farm boy, Barbara 15 yrs helping at home, Sydney 12 yrs a scholar Sarah Ann 10 yrs a scholar and Marjorie 8 yrs a scholar

Military History

Private Sydney Cuddy enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 22nd Tyneside Scottish battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers. He died on 21st March 1918 he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.

Extra Information

His sister Norah married Albert Ellis who was killed in action on 21st March 1918 whilst serving with the 2/7th Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment.
