Arthur Wright and Evelyn Frances E Tarry married in 1881 in Worksop. Their first residence was in Darfoulds on the Worksop outskirts where Arthur worked as a coal miner in the local colliery. The couple had five children, Charlotte born 1883, Arthur born 1887, born May 1890, Herbert in 1892/3 and Violet born 1895. Tragedy struck at the turn of the century as Charlotte died in 1901 aged 18 and the following year, Violet died age 7. By 1911 the family had moved and were living at 3 Devonshire Street where Arthur was working in Steetley Colliery and Herbert was employed as a blacksmiths striker.
Herbert enlisted at Doncaster and was sent to France on 11 September 1915 where where he was killed in action and is buried in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France
