Charles Henry was known as Fred. The 1911 census shows him as being 13 and a 'mate' on a boat called the 'Rosa May' owned by his brother in law John William Hewitt and moored at Middlebridge, Gringley on the Hill

Military History

Soldiers died in the Great War records show him as Charles Henry and that he was born in South Leverton and enlisted in Pontefract. and was killed in action on 3rd July 1916 during the battle of the Somme. His medal card's also show him as being Charles Henry and that he first entered a theatre of war in France on 6th October 1915. He was entitled to the three medals, The 1915 Star, the Victory medal and the British war medal and it gives his next of kin as his sister Mrs H B Hewitt of Middlebridge, Gringley on the Hill
