Family History

Robert Roe and Martha Ann Lowe married in 1886, Grantham. They had three children, Robert Healy Roe born in 1888 at Springthorpe Lincs, Sidney born 1894 at Eastwell, Leics,and Cecil Henry born 1903 Eastwell. The children were bought up in Eastwell where Robert the elder worked as a farm labourer and horse groom. They moved to Ragnall some time after 1903 and by 1911 Robert Healy was working on the farms at Harthill, Yorks, whilst Sidney was employed the same in Ragnall.

Military History

Retford Times 14 Jan 1916 'Pte Sidney Roe We produce above a photograph of Pte Sidney Roe, a Ragnall man with the 2nd Sherwood Foresters, who was killed in action on Christmas Day 1915. The deceased enlisted on Dec 30th 1914 and went out to France in August last year. He left a good position to join the forces and was highly respected by his numerous friends'.
