Family History

William was born in West Stockwith in 1886 the son of John and Annie Eliza Hackett (nee Kay) of Station Street Misterton his father was a canal boatman. he had 3 siblings, Eliza born 1883, Walter born 1891 and Ernest born 1893. He married Kate Vickers (born 19th December 1885) in 1899 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had a son John William born 6th November 1906, they lived at 21 Eadon Road, Attercliffe, Sheffield. Commencing 16th October 1916 his widow Kate was awarded a pension of 5 shillings a week. His widow married on 17th June 1916 to Charles Sillence their marriage was recorded in the Sheffield registration district.

Military History

Private William Hackett enlisted into the Army at Misterton, he was wounded in action on 12th March 1916 and admitted to hospital at Merville. He died of his wounds on 19th March 1916 and is buried at Merville Communal Cemetery, France, he was 30 yrs of age
