Family History

Frank Bowman was born on 16th November 1885 at Farnsfield and was the son of William a gardener and Ann Bowman née Swift of Upper Hexgrave House, Farnsfield. His father William was born in 1846 at Eakring and his mother Ann Swift was born in 1853 at West Burton, they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration District, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Farnsfield, Harry b1877, George b1882, Ann Elizabeth b1884 and Frank b1885. His mother Ann died on in 1900 aged 48 yrs and his father William died on 23rd March 1909 aged 64 yrs both deaths were recorded in the Southwell Registration District. Following the death of their parents the three brothers all emigrated to Canada.

Military History

Sapper Frank Bowman enlisted on 22nd March 1915 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, he served with 48th battalion Canadian Pioneers. When he attested he stated he had previously served for a period of 5 yrs with the Royal Marines Artillery in England. he died on 8th October 1918 at the No 5 Canadian General Hospital at Kirkdale, Liverpool of valvular heart disease and pneumonia. He is buried in Liverpool (Kirkdale) Cemetery, Lancashire, grave reference VII.NC 919
