Family History

Robert Edward Barton was born in 1890 at Chelsea Barracks in London and was the son of Robert a member of the Law Courts Staff and former Grenadier Guardsman and Jessie Baton née Pegram. His father Robert was born in in Farnsfield in 1863 and his mother Jessie Pegram was born in 1863 in Dunmon, Essex, they were married in Chelsea in 1882 and went on to have the following children, George b1882 Pimlico, London, Lily b1888 Westminster and Robert b1890 Chelsea barracks. In the 1911 census Robert Edward is living at 16 Caversham Street, Chelsea, London, he is shown as being 21 yrs single and a motor fitter, he is lodging with Emily Wright 49 yrs a widow and her family.

Military History

Lance Sergeant Robert Edward Barton enlisted at Weybridge and served with the 7th battalion East Surrey Regiment. He landed in France on 2nd June 1915 , he died on 13th March 1916 and is buried in Phalempin Communal Cemetery, Nord, France, grave reference E.1.
