Family History

Ernest (A) Wright was born in 1890 the son of Walter and Elizabeth Carlton Wright of 177 Manchester Road, Longroyd Bridge, Huddersfield. He was from a family of eight. He married Mary Ann Ratcliffe at Doncaster in 1913 and had two sons, Ernest R in 1914 and Frank in 1916, both births registered in Doncaster. Mary Ann later lived at Square Field, Finnigley, Doncaster.

Military History

182nd Tunnelling Coy., Royal Engineers Ernest was killed in action on 29 September 1917.and is buried in La Targette British Cemetery Neuville-St Vaast, France (grave ref. I.G.3). CWGC - History of La Targette British Cemetery (extract): 'Formerly known as Aux-Rietz Military Cemetery, it was begun at the end of April 1917 and used by field ambulances and fighting units until September 1918 ... Sixteen graves were brought into the cemetery from the immediate neighbourhood after the Armistice.'
