Family History

John was born in Dunham on Trent in 1899 the son of John a labourer on the flood banks and Drusilla Talbot , he had three siblings. In the 1911 census we find the family living in Dunham, he is 11 years of age and a scholar.

Military History

Soldiers of the Great War records John as being born in Dunham on Trent, it states he enlisted at Retford and served with the 8th battalion King's Own Lancashire Regiment his service number was 41148 and that he died of wounds on 28th September 1918. he is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery France. Pte John Talbot Retford Times 18th Oct 1918 Pte John Talbot, Kings Own Royal Lancs Regt was killed in action in France on September 28th last, which was the first anniversary of his joining the Army. He was the second son of Mr and Mrs John Talbot, Dunham on Trent. He had only been in France 20 weeks and was 19 years of age. Before joining the Colours he was employed in the gardens at Rampton Manor, the residence of Sir Charles and Lady Ellis. The deceased was a member of the Bible Class conducted by the Rev T E S Ferris, Darlton, curate.
