Family History

Born and christened Charles Sansom (sometimes called Sanson) in 1889, he was one of six children born to Abraham and Elizabeth Sansom. He was born at Dunham on Trent, as were his other five siblings. They were, John born 1878, Frank 1882, Lucy 1884, William 1886 and Joe born 1892. The head of the family, Abraham, died in 1911 aged 80 leaving his widow, Lucy as housekeeper to Frank and Joe. Charles meantime, was an employee and boarder on the Wells farm, South Scarle, Collingham, Notts, working as a waggoner and where he married Annie Johnson in 1915. They had a daughter, Katherine in 1916.

Military History

He enlisted at Newark, fought in Belgium where he was killed in action and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
