William, was born at Torksey in 1896 the son of George Randall a farmer and Fanny Ward, of Sutton-on-Trent, Newark, Notts. The 1911 census shows the family living in Dunham on Trent , William is 15 years of age and was born at Torksey, he is a farm labourer and has 6 siblings.
Soldiers of the Great war records shows he enlisted at Retford and also states he was born in Dunham on Trent and residing at Dunham. His name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France
