Military History

Lance Corpl. Richard Beighton Worksop Guardian 1 June 1917 The sympathy of everyone in Blyth is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Beighton of Lawe Hill, in the sorrow which has come upon them in the death of their son, Pte. Richard Beighton, Nott’s and Derby. Regiment. Nothing had been heard of him for some little time, and the fears that were entertained as to him being amongst the fallen, were confirmed in a letter received this week from the Chaplain, who says how very much deceased comrades and officers regret his loss. He speaks of the exemplary life Beighton led. His, he says, was a sterling character, and his parents might well be proud of him. Pte. Beighton, who was a crack shot, was before enlistment an under keeper on the Blyth Hall Estate, which has now lost two keepers in the war, the other being Pte. Vincent. Beighton was brought up at Selby, and was liked by all who knew him.
