Family History

Arthur Edward Alldridge was born in 1882 the son of an ironworks labourer Edward and Ann (Nancy) Alldridge née Thornhill. Arthur married Ada Saville on 20th May 1902 at Stapleford Parish Church. They had the following children – Douglas who was born 3rd September 1903, Doris Ann (21st March 1905), Arthur Norman (9th November 1906), Edward (18th February 1909), Thomas William (30th July 1911) and Abigale May (25th September 1913). In 1911, Arthur and family lived with Ada's parents and her four brothers at 142, Nottingham Road, Stapleford, Nottinghamshire. Ada’s father Thomas Saville was a chimney sweep. With effect from 2/10/1916, Ada Saville received a weekly pension of 26/6d for herself and six children.

Military History

Arthur Edward Alldridge enlisted at Stapleford on 29th April 1915. He was 33 years and 10 months old. Landing in France on 9th December 1915, Arthur Alldridge was killed in action on March 12th 1916. He is buried in White House Cemetery, St. Jean, Ypres, Grave Reference: I B 5.
