Andrew Kirk was born in 1895 at Kimberley, he was the son of Benjamin Kirk a coal miner hewer and his first wife Emily Chambers. of King Street, Hodthorpe, Whitwell, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. His father Benjamin was born in 1869 at Kimberley, he was married to his first wife Emily Cambers in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they had children, Eliza b1891, Benjamin b1893, Andrew b1895 Leonard b1898 and John b1899, Emily died in 1901 she was 29 yrs of age,. His father married his second wife Sarah Walter they were married on 23rd May 1904 at Holy Trinity Church, Kimberley. In 1901, the family lived on Spring Hill, Kimberley and later King Street, Whitwell, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Private Andrew Kirk enlisted at Worksop whilst residing at Whitwell, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th May 1915 and is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery Grave Reference: VIII A 58
