Charles Frederick Watkinson was born in 1897 at Budby, he was baptised on 3rd December 1897 at St Mary's, Edwinstowe he was the son of John Henry a horseman on a farm and Alice Watkinson née Pinder of Light Farm, Thoresby Park, Ollerton. John Henry was born in 1867 at Bedale, North Yorkshire and Alice Pinder was born in 1870 at Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire, they were married in 1896 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district, they had 6 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at Light Farm, Thoresby Park, Ollerton, John Henry 44 yrs is a horseman on a far, he is living with his wife Alice 34 yrs and their son Charles Frederick 13 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Charles Frederick Watkinson enlisted at Thoresby, he served with the North Staffordshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
