Family History

William Wright was born in 1899 at Eastwood, he was the son of Charles a labourer on a sewage farm, and Alice Wright née Burrows of Mount Pleasant, Hill Top, Eastwood. His father Charles was born in 1874 at Greasley, his mother Alice Burrows was born in 1875 at Greasley they were married in 1896 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 7 children sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children all born in Greasley were, Beatrice b1896 William b1899, Lizzie b1900, Ethel b1902, Ada b1903 and Elsie b1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at Sewage Farm, Newthorpe and are shown as Charles 37 yrs a labourer on the sewage farm, he is living with his wife Alice 36 yrs and their children, Wilie 12 yrs a scholar, Lizzie 11 yrs a scholar, Ethel 9 yrs a scholar, Ada 8 yrs at home, Elsie 3 yrs at home.

Military History

Private William Wright enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Hill Top, Eastwood, he initially served with the service number 116671 in the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment later transferring to the 9th battalion Essex Regiment he was killed in action on 23rd September 1918 and is buried in Unicorn Cemetery, Vendhuile, Aisne, France, grave reference III.B.19
