Horace was born in 1899 he was the son of Thomas a farmer and Mary Elizabeth Cooper née Walker and the brother of Arthur, Edith, Frank, Cyril, Eric and Thomas Herbert Cooper. Thomas was born in 1868 at Shirebrook, Mary Elizabeth Walker was born in 1868 at Langwith they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Worksop Registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 they lived at Hollycroft Farm Shirebrook. Thomas 43 is a farmer, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 43 yrs and their 7 children, including Horace 11 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Horace Cooper enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 23rd October 1918 and is buried at Romeries Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
