Bernard Robert Cunningham was born in 1895 at Moorgreen and was the son of James an estate bricklayer and Thirza Cunningham née Ockwell of Moorgreen Nottinghamshire. His father James was born in 1860 at Henley in Arden, Warwickshire and his mother Thirza Ockwell was born in 1862 at Cherrrington, Gloucestershire, they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Stratford Registration District, they went on to have 9 children, Alexander b1888 Henley in Arden, Rowland b1890 Henley in Arden, the remaining children all born in Moorgreen were James b1893, Bernard b1895 Nora b1898, Winifred b1901, Margaret b1903, John b1907, Kathleen b1910. In the 1911 census the family are living in the village of Moorgreen and are shown as James 51 yrs an estate bricklayer, he is living with his wife Thirza 49 yrs and their children, Alexander 23 yrs a chemists assistant, James 18 yrs an apprentice bricklayer, Bernard 16 yrs an estate clerk, Nora 13 yrs a scholar, Winifred 10 yrs a scholar, Margaret 8 yrs a scholar, John 4 yrs, and Kathleen 1 yearr of age.
Private Bernard Robert Cunningham enlisted at Nottingham on 26th May 1914 , he gave his age as 19 yrs and 1 month, his address as Moorgreen and his next of kin was his father James of the same address. He stated he was an estate clerk employed by L Cooper of Moorgreen. He served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters and was embodied for war on 5th August 1914. He landed in France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in action on 13th October 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
