Family History

Horace Bush was born in 1892 at Cossall and was the son of George a lace hand and Emily Bush née James of Canal Side, Cossall. His father George was born in 1859 at Radford and his mother Emily James was born in 1859 at Bromyard, Hereford, they were married in Bromyard, Hereford and went on to have 4 children, sadly one was to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Horace b1892, Alice Emily b1895 and Edith b1897, all were born in Coassall In the 1911 census the family are living at Gin Stables, Cossall and are shown as George 52 yrs a lace hand, he is living with his wife Emily 59 yrs and their children Horace 18 yrs a colliery pit banksman, Alice Emily 16 yrs a lace hand and Edith 14 yrs a hosiert hand.

Military History

Private Horace Bush enlisted on 2nd November 1914 at Ilkeston, he gave his age as 22 yrs and 1 month, He was posted to the 5th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He landed in France on 1st March 1915, he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 the first day of the battle of the Somme, he is buried in Bienvillers Military Cemetery Grave Reference: XXI
