Harry Johnson North was born in 1893 the son of James a boot maker and Harriett North née Johnson of Dorrington. James was born in 1863 at Dorrington and Harriett Johnson was born in 1868 at Epworth, married in 1892 at Thorne, Yorkshire and went on to have the following children, Harry Johnson b1893, Gertrude b1896, George Alfred b1899, Annie b1901 and William Percy b1904 all were born in Dorrington. In 1911 is parents and siblings are living at Dorrington and are shown as James 48 yrs, he is living with his wife Harriett 42 yrs and their children, George Alfred 12 yrs a scholar, Annie 10 yrs a scholar and William Percy 6 yrs. In 1911 Harry Johnson North has left the family home, he is living at Sheffield House Cottage, Scopwick, Lincolnshire he is a boarder living with Ann Elizabeth Sutton 48 yrs and her daughter Lilian 19 yrs, he is shown as being 17 yrs single and a second waggoner on the farm. He married Maud Mary Woolley in 1914, their marriage was recorded in the East Retford registration district, they lived at Marnham near Newark and had the following children, William Henry born 16th January 1915 and Ernest born 1st June 1916. Following Harry's death his widow Maud was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week commencing 7th October 1918.
Private Harry Johnson North enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Newark, he initially served with the service number 204711 in the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. he was killed in action on 14th March 1918 whilst serving with the 8th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He is buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
