Family History

Jeremiah Paxton known as Jerry was born in 1890, he was the son of Joseph a coal miner hewer and Elizabeth Paxton née Kirk of New Brinsley and the brother of Thomas and Harry Paxton and Sarah Wright. Joseph was born in 1864 at New Brinsley, Elizabeth Kirk was born in 1863 at Riddings, Derbyshire, they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district they had 6 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at New Brinsley Joseph 47 yrs is a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Elizabeth 48 yrs and their children Thomas 24 yrs and Jeremiah 21 yrs a coal miner.

Military History

Paxton enlisted on January 18th 1915 at Nottingham, he served with the 11th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. Landing in France on 29th June 1915 he received shoulder and hand wounds near Armentieres on September 6th 1915 and invalided home. He returned to France on February 28th 1916 and was killed on the Somme on October 5th that year.
