Family History

Arthur Hatton (junior) was born in 1898 at Brinsley and was the son of Arthur Hatton (senior) a coal miner hewere and his first wife the late Juliana Hatton née Webster of New Brinsley, Nottinghamshire His father Arthur was born in 1866 at Kimberley , he died in 1912 aged 47 yrs, his mother Juliana Webster was born in 1864 at Ilkeston, she died in 1904 aged 39 yrs, they were married on 18th November 1893 at Cotmanhay, Derbyshire, Juliana brought a child to the marriage John William Webster born 1893 at Ilkeston. they went on to have the following children all born in Eastwood, William b1896, Arthur b1898, Maria b1901 and Susan Hannah Hatton b1909. Following his wife's death his father Arthur Hatton (senior) went to re marry Mary Raynor in 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, Mary brought a son to the marriage Edward Royston Raynor born 1907 at Basford. In the 1911 census the family are living at New Brinsley near Eastwood Nottinghamshire and are shown as Arthur 44 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his second wife Mary and his children, William 15 yrs a coal miner hewer, Arthur 13 yrs a scholar, Maria 10 yrs a scholar and Susan Hannah 2 yrs of age, also living with them is Edward Royston 4 yrs of age (Arthur's step son)

Military History

Private Arthur Hatton tried twice to enlist under age before being accepted a few weeks before his 18th birthday in June 1916 at Derby. He initially served with the service number 55334 in The Sherwood Foresters Regiment and with service number 32054 in the Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action whist serving with the 2nd battalion Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire Regiment.) on 3rd December 1917, he is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium,
