Family History

Born 1885. Son of William and Ada Tomlinson of Bramcote, Nottingham. Siblings: Martha, Edith, Julia, William and Jesse. He married Gertrude (nee Smith) on 3 February 1908 and had two children, Herbert and Kate. In 1911 they were living at Chapel Street, Bramcote. He and his brother Jesse both enlisted in the Grenadier Guards in 1915; Jesse survived the war. William served as a special constable in Bramcote during the war.

Military History

Enlisted January 1915 and to France October 1915. Died of wounds and buried in Grove Town Cemetery, Meulte (grave ref 1.G.16).

Extra Information

There is a brass plaque in the entrance porch of St Michael's church: 'From his grave in France, in loving memory of Harry Tomlinson. Love Never Faileth.'
