Family History

Charles Patton Lavelle was born in 1893 at Lythe, Yorkshire and was the son of the late Patrick Rowan Levelle a game keeper and Eliza Jane Lavelle née Patton, of 27,Bramcote Road, Beeston, Notts His father Patrick was born in 1867 in Gallway, Ireland, his mother Eliza Jane Patton was born in 1864 in Monaghan, Ireland, they were married in 1890 in Rathdrum, Ireland they went on to have the following children, Elizabeth b1891 Lythe, Charles Patton b1893 Lythe, Kathleen b1895 Lythe, Nora Ellen b1897 Lythe and Greata Ann b1899 Yorkshire In the 1911 census the family are living at Moor Lane, Bramcote and are shown as Patrick Lavelle 44 yrs a game keeper, he is living with his wife Eliza Jane 47 yrs and their children, Charles Patton 18 yrs a game keeper and Greata Annie 12 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Charles Patton Lavelle, enlisted in Nottingham , he initially served with service number 24703 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred into the 103rd Company Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action on 1st July 1916 the first day of the Battle of the Somme . He is buried in Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers-La Boisselle. Special memorial B.19
