Family History

Richard Hallam was born in 1879 at Stapleford and was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Hallam née Tucker of Stapleford. His father George was born on 23rd March 1838 at Kirkby in Ashfield he died on 5th March 1910, his mother Elizabeth Tucker was born on 27th March 1841 at Sandiacre , they were married on 16th September 1861 at St Giles Church, Sandiacre, Elizabeth brought a child to the marriage John Hallam Tucker b1861, they went on to have following children, Hannnah b1862, Richard b1862 - died 1879, George b1863, Eliza b1865, Isaac b1867, Ruth b1867, Esther b1869, James b1871, Elizabeth b1872, Frederick b1873, Edmund b1875, Sarah b1875, Samuel b1878, Thomas b1881 and Henry b1884. all were born in Stapleford. In the 1911 census Richard is living at 105 Derby Road, Stapleford, he is living with his married sister and her husband and his brother Henry, they are shown as Albert Frost 36 yrs a brick layer, he is living with is wife Elizabeth Frost 39 yrs, he is shown as Richard Hallam 31 yrs a gas engine man and Henry Hallam 25 yrs a pipe roller. Richard Hallam married his wife Hannah Mary Edwards (born 18th March 1886) in 1914, their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow Registration district, they went on to have a son George William born 2nd November 1914, they lived at Chapel Street, Bramcote. Following Richard's death his widow Hannah was awarded a pension of 21 shillings and 8 pence which commenced on 2nd December 1918.

Military History

Private Richard Hallam enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918 and is buried at Roisel Communal Cemetery grave reference 3.D.16
