Family History

Richard was born on 1st May 1887 at Chelsea, he was the only son of His Honour Judge Wilfred Baugh Allen of Irisemount,Tenby, Pembrokeshire. He was known as "Lancelot Allen". His father, Wilfred Baugh Allen, was a judge, his mother, Anna Sophia Wedgwood, was a descent of the famed potter Josiah Wedgwood. In 1894, his portrait was painted by John Singer Sargent. He was educated at Eton School, Windsor. Richard married his wife Marion Irvine on 12th June 1917 at Preston, Lancashire

Military History

Lieutenant Richard Lancelot Baugh Allen was living in Canada at the outbreak of the Great War and enlisted on 11th November 1914 at Victoria, British Columbia into the Canadian Mounted Rifles he was later granted a commission into the Royal Field Artillery and was sent to Egypt where he was posted to the 67th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He committed suicide on 27th December 1918 by shooting himself in the head with his revolver, he is buried at Cairo War Cemetery, Egypt. .
