Family History

Alfred was born in 1894 the son of George a lace worker and Harriet Sibley (née Newcombe). George was born in 1869 in Sneinton, Nottingham and his mother in 1872 at Carlton Scoop, Lincolnshire. Married in March 1891 at Shardlow, Derbyshire, they 9 children, eight surviving infancy - Florence Mary b.1892 Beeston, George Arthur b.1893 Beeston, Alfred Nathan b.1894 Beeston, Annie b.1897 Beeston, Harold b.1899 Beeston, Frederick b.1902 Draycott, Derbyshire, Thomas b.1907 Draycott, and Louisa b.1910 Beeston. In 1911, they lived at 10, Wilkinson Avenue, Beeston. George, Harriet, Florence and Annie worked in the lace trade whilst George Arthur worked at Ericssons telephones.

Military History

Alfred enlisted on 30th October 1914 at Nottingham standing 5' 8" and weighing 123 lbs. He was sent to Dublin during the Irish Rebellion in 1916. He was killed in fighting around Northumberland Avenue and Mount Street Bridge. He was one of 31 Sherwood Foresters who died during the Irish Rebellion 1916.
