Employment, Education or Hobbies He was a Co-op grocer's assistant in 1911. He was a member of University. David Hallam notes 'He attended Nether Street School and joined the Boys' Brigade (where he became a keen musician). He was later a memmber of the Nottingham University Constituency for Extra Study and a keen participant of the educational classes after work at the Boys' Brigade. He was quite a wit and also took part in all forms of card games, having a reputation for being very lucky.' (Beeston Rememebers)

He was the son of John Shrewsbury and Elizabeth Sharp and the brother of Elizabeth and Edith Sharp of 47 Regent Street Beeston Nottingham. He was fostered by the Shrewsbury family (Beeston Rememebers by David Hallam).
