William Lawrence was born in 1894 the son of John Thomas a brick maker and Mary Elizabeth Pearson (née Beswick). Both were born at Sutton Bonnington. Married in 1891, they had twelve children, ten surviving infancy - John Thomas b.1892 Loughborough, William Lawrence b.1894 Sutton Bonnington, Elizabeth Ada b.1895 Kingston on Soar, Ethel Annie b.1898 Shepshed, Claud Edward b.1901 Shepshed, Clara Beswick b.1903 Shepshed, Ada b.1904 Shepshed, Frank b.1907 Shepshed and Liliian May b.1910 Sileby. In 1911, they lived at St John Street, Thringstone, Leicestershire. John Thomas and William made bricks and Elizabeth made shoes. John Thomas and Mary Elizabeth later lived at 19, Upper Regent Street, Beeston, Nottingham.
William Lawrence Pearson enlisted in Loughborough on 17th August 1914 serving initially (10241) in the Leicestershire Regiment. He was discharged on 23rd September 1914 being considered unfit for service Kings Regulations 392(III) C. He later re enlisted and served (18265) in the Highland Light Infantry, later transferring to the King's Own Scottish Borderers. He landed in the Balkans on 25th May 1915 and was killed in action on 28th June 1915 in the Dardenelles. He is buried in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, Cape Helles, where he is commemorated by a special memorial.
