Family History

Jesse Chapman was born 23rd November 1882 at Scawby, Lincolnshire and was the son of the late Harry Chapman an agricultural labourer and Susanna Chapman née Leggett of Balderton His father Harry was born in 1860 at Thoresby, Lincolnshire , he died in 1898 at Lincoln aged 38 yrs his mother Susanna Leggett was born in 1857 at Horncastle, they were married in 1879 at Galnford Brigg, Lincolnshire and went on to the have the following children, Henry Thomas b1880 Scawby, William Thorald b1881 Scawby, Jesse b1882 Scawby Alice Elizabeth b1885 Glanford Brigg, Edith b1887 Broughton, Fanny b1890 Appleby, John b1892 The Fenn, Lilly b1897 South Carlton, Charles b1897 South Carlton and Annie b1898 South Carlton. In the 1911 census Jesse has left the family home and is living with his uncle and aunt at 53 Victoria Street, Lincoln, and are shown as Charles Green 45 yrs a Police constable and his wife Annie Green 45 yrs and their children, Jesse is shown as being 28 yrs, single and also a Police Constable. Jesse married his wife Rose Hannah Parratt (born 14th February 1883) in 1911 at Horncastle they lived at 43 Fairfield Street, Monks Road, Lincoln and later 1 Coleby Street, Lincoln.

Military History

Sergeant Jesse Chapman enlisted at Lincoln whilst residing at Scawby, he served with the 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and died of wounds on 29th October 1916, he is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
