Family History

Horace Edgar Jeffries was born in 1900 the son of Edgar Isaac a lace curtain maker and Annie Jeffries (née Storer, died 1915 aged 45). Edgar was born in 1870, at New Basford, Nottingham, Annie Storer at Carrington. They were married in 1901 and had three children, Gertrude, Horace and Hilda. In 1901, they lived Digby Street, Carrington. By 1911, the family had moved to 57, Derby Street, Beeston. Gertrude was a spool winder. Horace’s widowed mother Eliza Jeffries lived with the family. In 1917 his father Edgar married Isabella Deborah Owen, a widow who was then trading as a hardware dealer at 71, Chilwell Road, Beeston, where the couple settled.

Military History

Horace Edgar Jeffries enlisted at Nottingham initially serving (100492) with the Sherwood Foresters. He later transferred to the Northamptonshire Regiment. Combles Communal Cemetery Extension, Grave Reference: III A 40
