Walter married his wife Katherine Sandall (born 4th February 1878 in 1902, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, they went on to have 3 children Beatrice May born 30th July 1903, William born 28th February 1905 and Walter (junior) born 30th June 1911 all were born Newark , they lived at Main Street Balderton. In the 1911 census the family are living at Main Street, Balderton and are shown as Walter Bulman 33 yrs a maltster, he is living with his wife Kathleen 32 yrs and their children Beatrice 7 yrs and William 6 yrs.
Lance Corporal Walter Bulman enlisted at Newark and served with the1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 27th October 1915 and was killed in action on 28th July 1917. He is buried at Philosophe British Cemetery, Loos, Grave Reference: I T 54
Article published on 22nd August 1917 in the Newark Advertiser :- Resided with wife and three little children in Main Street, Balderton. Employed by Messrs. Simpson & Co. but joined up at the beginning of the war. Had been in France one year and eleven months at the time of his death. On Feb. 28th 1917 he was wounded and on May 10th he was buried alive, but got out safely. Killed by a flying piece of shell while at his post.
