Family History

George Burrows was born in 1879 at Cropwell Bishop and was the son of Richard a gypsum plaster blower and Emma Burrows, néé Hack of Cropwell Bishop. His father Richard Burrows was born in 1848 at Cropwell Bishop, he died in 1899 aged 53 yrs his death was recorded in the Bingham Registration area, his mother Emma Hack was born 1855 also in Cropwell Bishop, she died in 1890 aged 35 yrs her death was recorded in the Bingham Registration District. They were married in 1873, their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District. They went on to have the following children, John b1874, William Henry b1876, George b1879, Alfred b1886 and Lynn b1889 all born at Cropwell Bishop. George married Mary Kate Guy Clarke (born 27th October 1873 Cropwell Bishop) in 1899 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham Registration District, she brought a child to their marriage, Constance Wakely Guy Clark b1899 In 1911 census George and his family were living at Wilson's Lane Cropwell Bishop and are shown as George Burrows 32 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Mary Kate Burrows 37 yrs and his step daughter Constance Guy Clarke 12yrs a scholar. Commencing 29th October 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and nine pence a week.

Military History

Private George Burrows enlisted at Derby and served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was killed in action, 9th April 1917, during the German attack near Hill 60, Belgium. Buried : Sanctuary Wood Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 2, Row J, Grave 31.
