Felix William Jordan was born on 9th June 1889 at East Dulwich, London and was the son of George a coal miner hewer and Mary Jordan née Walder of 19 Queen, Street, Warsop. His father George was born in 1863 at Great Gransden, Huntingdon, his mother Mary Ann Walder was born in 1867 at Reigate, they were married on 10th June 1888 at Camberwell, London, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Felix William b1889, Frederick b1894, Albert b1897 all were born in East Dulwich, their next child a daughter Phoebe was born in 1899 at Nunhead and their final child Arthur was born in 1910 at Warsop. In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Queen Street, Warsop and are shown as George Jordan 48 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Mary 44 yrs and their children William Felix 22 years a coal miner, Fred 17 yrs a coal miner, Albert 14 yrs a coal miner, Phoebe 12 yrs a scholar and Arthur 1 year old.
Private Felix William Jordan enlisted at Worksop whilst residing at 19 Queen Street, Warsop, he served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He won a Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for conspicuous gallantry when repairing telephone wires under severe shell fire, he was presented with his medal at The Picture House in Warsop in January 1917. He was killed in action on 11th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
Photograph of Felix was printed in the Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser on 25/01/1917 3 of his brothers also served; Albert and Frederick in the Royal Navy and George with the Royal Engineers.
