He was the son of Joseph and Mary Wilson and the brother of Catherine, Jane, Selina, William, John, Joseph, Bentley and Elizabeth Wilson. In 1881, the family lived at 22, Quarry Street, Bulwell and in 1891 at 244, Quarry Street. He married his wife Florence Annie Walters (born 3rd May 1879) in 1901, they lodged with Thomas's widowed mother Mary, his brother Bentley and their baby son James born 13th February 1902 at 199 Quarry Street. In 1911, they lived at 57, Northcote Street, Bulwell with their children James, Florence May born 30th June 1905 and Lily born 20th August 1908 Joseph born 18th April 1911 . After moving to Mansfield, they had two more children - Thomas born 21st December 1913 and Elizabeth born 1915 His pension record shows the family were living at 78 Sherwood Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, and following his death his widow Florence Annie was awarded a pension of 31 shillings and 3 pence a week which commenced on 2nd July 1917.
Private Thomas Wilson enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Mansfield Woodhouse, he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed during the Battle of Le Transloy, a phase of the 1916 Somme campaign. 11th Sherwood Foresters assembled in Destremont Trench at 09.15 hours on October 1st. They attacked Flers Trench near Sars. 'A' company was on the right, 'B' Company on the left . The objective was taken but the Foresters suffered 169 casualties. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial Pier & Faces 10C, 10D & 11D
