Albert Henry Wardle was born in 1888 at Ilkeston, he was the son of Joseph and his first wife Emily Wardle née Widdison. Joseph was born in 1858 at Ilkeston, Emily Widdison was born in 1860 at Ilkeston, she died in 1901 aged 41 yrs, they were married on 1st September 1878 at St Mary's Church Ilkeston. His father remarried Ethel Mould born 1865 at Peterborough they were married in 1902 at Nottingham, they lived at 99 Arkwright Town. Chesterfield . In 1911 Joseph is living with his second wife Edith at 48 Mafeking Terrace, Spital, Chesterfield, he is 53 yrs and is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his second wife Edith 45 yrs and two of Josephs children, Frank Joseph 8 yrs and John Edward 17 yrs (from his first marriage a coal miner pony driver. In 1911 Albert was living with the Lilliman family at 9 Sherwood Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. he is 22 yrs of age single and a coal miner hewer. Albert had a child out of wedlock, Margaret Annie born 10th March 1914 who lived with his parents.

Military History

Private Albert Henry Wardle enlisted on 26th August 1914 at Mansfield giving his age as 26 years and 307 days he was a coal miner. He served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and landed in France on 14th July 1915. He was killed in action on 13th October 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
